Responsible managment

For Gruppo Maio, doing business responsibly remains one of the main objectives. Gruppo Maio has implemented a Quality and Environmental Management System that allows for a unique and integrated vision of the objectives and results it aims for, thereby facilitating planning, the allocation of resources, the identification of complementary objectives and the evaluation of the overall effectiveness of the organization. All Group companies carry out their activities ethically and responsibly.

The quality and environmental management system

The Quality and Environmental Management System (QEMS) aims to:

  • demonstrate the ability to regularly provide services that comply with the Client’s needs
  • keep high environmental performance high
  • comply with all applicable mandatory requirements
  • increase client satisfaction and environmental performance through the effective application of the system, the continuous process of improvement and ensuring compliance with the specified requirements

The System requires the preparation of an Initial Environmental Review (IER), aimed at evaluating the existing relationships between past, present and future activities and the situation of the surrounding environment and area.

The analysis results in an organic systematization of data, with the consequent preparation for the identification and evaluation of the environmental aspects, that is to say of the activities that can give rise to environmental impacts. The evaluation of the environmental aspects, aimed at selecting them on the basis of their importance, takes into account different criteria including the relevance of the potential associated environmental impacts, the sensitivity of local communities etc. The aspects identified as significant lead to the adoption of documented management procedures to maintain operational control over company activities, improvement plans and monitoring procedures.

Training needs can also arise from:

  • Changes in procedures and/or work instructions
  • Operational requirements
  • Adaptations to legal requirements
  • Requests for theoretical or practical training by the employee or department manager
  • Non-conformity or corrective action
  • Recruitment of new staff

Training activities concern:

  • Simulations of environmental emergencies (emergency management and restoration of standards)
  • Correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Waste acceptance and document control management procedures
  • Plant management procedures
  • First aid courses
  • Simulations of environmental emergencies, etc.

The whole System is transmitted through the preparation and distribution of specific documentation:

  • Environmental Management Manuals (Quality and Environment) which provide a general description of the elements relating to the Group's Quality and Environmental Management System
  • Procedures/Operating Instructions that guarantee operational control, describing how quality/environmental management activities must be performed
  • List of applicable laws
  • Evaluation of legislative compliance
  • Monitoring and measurement systems
  • Management auditing and review system; the Companies follow a programme of periodic internal audits, i.e. audits aimed at providing Management with a report on the following aspects of the EMS. Management carries out annual periodic reviews of the Environmental Management System to verify its adequacy and efficiency, as well as to what extent the policy and objectives have been implemented. If necessary, Management makes appropriate changes with a view to continuously improving environmental management.

From time to time, the system review and the consistency with the pursuit of environmental objectives and operational control on the correct application of the operating instructions is carried out.
